The Sikh festival of warriors — Anandpur Sahib
Significance
Created to turn a festival of colour into one of courage and arms. Anandpur Sahib is the spiritual heart of the Khalsa — founded here by the 10th Guru in 1699.
Started by Guru Gobind Singh in 1701 as a martial alternative to Holi. Nihang Sikhs in blue-and-saffron display mock warfare, tent pegging, gatka sword-fencing and horse acrobatics across Anandpur Sahib for 3 days.
First-time visitor
Arrive a day before Holi, see the Gatka displays on Day 1 and the grand procession on Day 3.
