Significance

Marks the sun's transition into Capricorn — a harvest moment celebrated by flying kites to welcome longer days. Uttarayan is Gujarat's biggest public festival.

On Makar Sankranti, the sky above Ahmedabad fills with tens of thousands of kites as rooftops across Gujarat compete to cut each other's lines. International kite masters join from 40+ countries.

Arrive at an old-city haveli rooftop by 7 AM; stay through the night for lantern kites.
