Significance

The Kumbh Mela rotates every ~3 years between Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. 2027 is Nashik's turn — the last was 2015. Bathing at Ramkund during Kumbh is said to liberate the soul from rebirth.

The great pilgrimage returns to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar in 2027. Tens of millions of sadhus and pilgrims converge at Ramkund and the source of the Godavari for three Shahi Snans (royal bathing dates) over a three-month window.

First-time visitor

Target a weekday between Shahi Snans, bathe at Ramkund at dawn, then take the bus to Trimbakeshwar for the source-of-Godavari ritual.

What to see

  • Shahi Snan — three royal bathing dates drive peak crowds
  • Akhara processions of Naga sadhus
  • Dhwaja-rohan (flag-raising) inaugural ceremony
  • Kushavarta tank rituals at Trimbakeshwar

Travel tips

  1. 1Book 6+ months ahead — entire city sells out
  2. 2Avoid the Shahi Snan days if crowds worry you; weekdays are calmer
  3. 3Official tent cities have better hygiene than budget hotels
  4. 4Exact 2027 Shahi Snan dates will be announced by MP state govt ~6 months prior
