Significance
Celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha. Freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak revived it as a public festival in 1893 to unite communities during British rule.
Mumbai's biggest festival. Neighbourhoods compete with towering Ganpati idols, tens of thousands line Girgaum Chowpatty for the immersion, and Lalbaugcha Raja alone draws 1.5 million visitors.
First-time visitor
Visit 3–4 famous pandals on Day 3, avoid Lalbaug on Day 10, watch Visarjan from a Chowpatty rooftop.
