Significance

Celebrates goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura. Kolkata's Durga Puja was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2021.

Kolkata's streets become open-air art galleries as thousands of pandals (themed temporary temples) compete with elaborate installations. A city-wide festival that blurs religion, art and street food.

First-time visitor

Book a guided pandal tour on Day 8 (Ashtami) — you'll see the most elaborate pandals at their peak.
